Marriage Requirements for the state of North Carolina

In most circumstances you may apply for a marriage license at any NC county clerk office/register of deeds office where you plan to be married. These offices are usually located in the county probate court or circuit court.
Out of state residents can get married anywhere in North Carolina. There are no additional fees for out of state residents to be married in the state.
License is valid in any county of this state for a period of 60 days after issuance.
The person performing the marriage ceremony must return both copies of the license filled in and completed to the COUNTY WHERE THE LICENSE WAS ISSUED.

- There is no waiting period.
- The license expires after 60 days.
- There is a $60 fee for the application.
- Certified copies of Certificate's of Marriage can be obtained for $10.
- The marriage may occur in any county in the state.
- The ceremony must be performed by a Magistrate in the Court System or by an ordained minister; the minister does not have to be local.
The Couple will need to provide the following information:
- Social Security Card.
- Parents’ names and current address.
- State of parents’ births.
- If previously married, the date that the last marriage ended.
The Couple will also be required to show identification depending on age:
- Under age 18: The signature of a parent with legal guardianship
- Age 18 to 21: A certified birth certificate, social security card and driver's license
- Over age 21: A valid driver’s license and social security card
